If you love Mexican food, you can’t have too many tortillas. Baytown-based El Matador Foods is making sure you don’t run out. The company is investing .6 million to add a new building near its existing site.

The project is phase one of a two-phase investment plan that will yield about 100 new jobs at the food manufacturer’s plant. The Houston Business Journal reports the new 60,387-square-foot facility at 7414 Bayway Drive will be built just down the street from the company’s current location at 7201 Bayway Drive. Their current building is just over 16,000 square feet.

The project will be a one-story steel and concrete building equipped with a loading dock. Construction is expected to start in November and finish in August 2025.

El Matador Foods makes tortillas, tortilla chips, flavored wraps, Indian flatbread, taco shells and Tex-Mex salsa for retailers and restaurants in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and New Mexico as well as internationally.

Food distribution giant Sysco Corp. is a customer.
